Home favourite Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi and Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas will meet in the final of the QSF 3 on Tuesday after the pair won their respective semi-finals at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
Al Tamimi faced off against Leandro Romiglio in the last four, with the Argentinian having already gotten the better three seeded players, including the tournament’s top seed, en route to the semi-finals.
In front of his home crowd, Al Tamimi came out strongly, winning the first game of his contest with Romiglio 11-8. The second then went to a tie-break, with both men having game balls, but once again the Qatari was able to come through it to win it 14-12. That gave him the momentum, and he carried that through the third to book his place in the final, winning in straight games.
He will now face Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas in the final on Tuesday, after the World No.37 overcame the challenge of the tournament’s No.4 seed, Yahya Elnawasany, in three games. The match followed the pattern of the first semi-final, with Cardenas winning the first before a lengthy tie-break in the second also went his way. He then went on to win the third game 11-6 to book his place in another final on the Challenger Tour.
The final of the QSF 3 between Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi and Leonel Cardenas will take place on Tuesday, May 24 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, with the winner of the Challenger 20 level competition being decided.
