British National Championships 2022: Preview & How to watch live

The British National Championships 2022 gets underway from the National Squash Centre tomorrow with two rounds of qualifying taking place from 11:00 (BST).

There are four spots available for qualifiers in the men’s main draw and three spots available in the women’s draw.

One spot up for grabs in the men’s main draw is the opportunity to play the No.1 seed and former World Champion, Mohamed ElShorbagy. The current World No.3 recently switched from representing Egypt to England and will want to make a statement this week in his first British Nationals appearance.

Defending champion Joel Makin scored a win over ElShorbagy in the Manchester Open final back in April in what was his second win over ‘The Beast’ and is seeded to meet ElShorbagy in this year’s final.

Strong competition will come from other seeds in the men's draw including World No.21 Patrick Rooney, last year’s runner-up Adrian Waller and former World No.1 James Willstrop.

In the women’s draw, unfortunately, the top three ranked players are unable to compete due to injury. Therefore, Wales’ Emily Whitlock has become the event’s No.1 seed for the first time in her career. The Welsh No.2 has reached a highest World Ranking of No.12 and now sits at 21 in the current rankings.

English duo Lucy Turmel and Jasmine Hutton are the No.2 and 3 seeds for this year's event. Hutton has been a runner-up in the Nationals previously and both players have been making good progress on the PSA World Tour in the past year with Turmel reaching the world's top 20 and Hutton reaching the top 30.

Action from the British National Squash Championships will be shown live on SQUASHTV (to users with a free digital subscription), the England Squash and PSA World Tour Facebook pages, as well as England Squash TV .
