QSF 4 RD1: British Trio Among Those Into Second Round

The QSF 4 got underway at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, with 16 players in action on the opening day’s play, and a trio of Brits among those who made it through to the second round of the Challenger 30 level competition.

In the all-British clash on the first day of competition in Qatar, England’s Curtis Malik overcame Welshman Emyr Evans in a four-game battle. The pair were level after two games, but from there, it was the Englishman who took control, winning both the third and fourth to advance to the last 16, where he will now face top seed Victor Crouin on Tuesday.

Another Englishman, in Charlie Lee, also made his way through to the second round of the event after dispatching Germany’s Yannik Omlor in straight games, needing just 20 minutes to get the job done. The other Brit through to the last 16 is Scotland’s Rory Stewart, after he defeated Egypt’s Khaled Labib in half an hour.

Elsewhere on the opening day, the all Qatari battle went the way of Syed Azlan Amjad, who won a crucial first game tie-break to overcome compatriot and wildcard Abdulrahman Al-Malki in three games. Egypt’s Mazen Gamal and Aly Abou Eleinen, along with the Czech Republic’s Martin Svec and Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan, all made their way into the second round.

The second round of the Challenger 30 level QSF 4 will take place on Tuesday, June 21, with the seeded players coming into the tournament. You can keep up to date with live scores from Doha on the PSA World Tour website.
