Challenger Tour Weekly Preview: Lone Event In England

The quiet period for the PSA Challenger Tour continues this week as we move into the start of August, with just a single event being held on English soil on the Tour over the next seven days.

Last week, there was also just the one tournament taking place, with the Schraglage Squash Open powered by VASS played at the Pink Power club in Boblingen, Germany. Austria’s Aqeel Rehman and Germany’s Saskia Beinhard were the two that took victory, both winning for the first time in 2022.

This week, the Northern Joe Cup returns to the PSA Challenger Tour calendar for its second edition, having first been held in November 2021. This year’s tournament will feature both a men’s and women’s draw, and will take place at two venues in Manchester over the weekend.

Here is what is coming up on Tour this week…

Northern Joe Cup
The sole event on the Challenger Tour this week will be the Northern Joe Cup, which will take place from Friday, July 29 to Tuesday, August 2 at both Fairways Lodge and the Cheetham Hill Squash Club in Manchester.

The entirety of the women’s seeds hail from British soil, with Scotland’s Alison Thomson being the only non-Englishwoman amongst them. She will be the No.3 seed for the Challenger 5 level competition, with England’s Millie Tomlinson and Katie Malliff seeded above her for the event.

The English trio of Curtis Malik, Simon Herbert and Ben Smith will lead the way in the men’s draw, with Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez, Ireland’s Sean Conroy, Welshman Owian Taylor, Czech Republic’s Marek Panacek and Belgian Joeri Hapers making up a multi-national top eight seeds.

Action from the Northern Joe up will be streamed throughout the week on the PSA Challenger Tour YouTube channel, where you can watch Challenger Tour action, and interviews with rising stars.
