Challenger Tour Weekly Preview: Single Event In Czech Republic

For the third week in succession, the Challenger Tour will just feature a single event this week, with the Ostrava Squash Open taking place from Wednesday, August 3 to Sunday, August 7 in the Czech Republic.

The Tour’s sole event last week, the Northern Joe Cup, continues into the early part of this week, with the final of the Challenger 5 level tournament taking place on Tuesday evening in Manchester, England.

Here is what is taking place on Tour this week…

Ostrava Squash Open
The Ostrava Squash Open is the lone event this week, with action starting in the Czech Republic on Wednesday, August 3. Sportovni Centrum Fajne will play host to the five-day event, with a men’s Challenger 5 title on the line come Sunday afternoon.


Brazil’s Diego Gobbi will be the top seed for the event, with four Czech players amongst the top eight seeds on home soil for the competition. Jakub Solnicky, Marek Panacek, Viktor Byrtus and David Zeman will all be seeded, with hope of winning in their home nation.

Welshman Owain Taylor, England’s James Peach and Spaniard Marc Lopez make up the rest of the top eight seeds, while the likes of Austria, Colombia, Egypt and Germany are also represented in the 24-strong men’s draw for the tournament.
