England’s Curtis Malik and Egypt’s Zeina Zein have been named as the PSA Challenger Tour players of the month for July after both capturing the Hove Ampito Open earlier in the month.
Malik currently sits at his highest world ranking to date at World No.75 in the August rankings which was helped by his impressive win at the Hove Ampito Open. Malik was the No.6 seed in the event and defeated No.2 seed Joe Lee, No.4 seed Charlie Lee and No.3 seed Ben Coleman to lift the tile.
Not only did Malik win the event, but he also did it by winning every match in five games, spending a total time of 283 minutes on court. Including recovering from 2-0 down in the final.
Egypt’s World No.89 Zeina Zein also took the Hove Ampito title as she defeated the No.4 and No.2 seeds en route to the final. She then impressively beat the No.1 seed Torrie Malik in straight games to lift the title.
She then turned her attention to the Berkhamsted Linksap Open 2022 where she entered the event in an unseeded position. No.4 seed Katie Malliff was forced to withdraw in her opening match sending Zein through to the last 8. She then beat the No.4 seed and No.8 seed to take her place in her second successive final. She then lost out in a five-game thriller to England’s Grace Gear.
