Teenager Lynette Vai (pictured above, on the right) completed a triple gold medal swoop at the 2015 Pacific Games to ensure success for host country Papua New Guinea.
The 16-year-old helped her country to victory in the Women's Team Championship final with a triumph over New Caledonia, who claimed all seven gold medals during the 2011 games, before moving on to best compatriot Eli Webb in the Singles event final with a 3-1 win.
Vai, who is ranked as the World No.231 on the PSA World Rankings, went on to secure an unlikely gold medal hat-trick in the Mixed Doubles Championship after teaming up with Madako Junior Suari to see off Robin Morove and Webb in the showpiece event.
“It wasn't a good start, my nerves took over,” Vai told Inside the Games after her Singles event triumph.
“It was more of a challenge than the last time we played and I wasn't expecting it. I had a break, calmed myself down and tried again. I became more patient, settled in and got used to her game.”
Nicolas Massenet also clinched three gold medals in the various Men's events, with the New Caledonian taking the Men's Team Championship, Men's Singles and Men's Doubles crowns to add to the solitary gold medal he claimed in 2011.
