The top four seeds all safely progressed to the quarter-finals of the Mackay Open, PSA M5 event after seeing off their lower-ranked opponents in style.
Number one seed Zac Alexander beat local player Andrew Ollett in straight games to stay on course for a second successive PSA World Tour title. The 26-year-old dominated proceedings at the Mackay Leisure Centre and swept to an 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 triumph.
Alexander, who is yet to drop a game in the tournament, will now face Malaysia’s Mithran Selvaratnam in the next round after he dispatched Caillin Austin.
Joshua Larkin and Adam Murrills, seeds two and three, respectively, are also through to the quarter-final after Larkin saw off Stuart Hadden while Murrills beat Vivian Rhamanan.
The former will go on to face Darcy Evans after the Australian defeated Bryce King in three and Murrills is set to meet Rohan Toole who came through a straightforward win over TJ French.
Meanwhile, fourth seed Rhys Dowling cruised through to the quarter final where he faces fellow Australian Solayman Nowrozi, who surprised Thomas Calvert in what turned out to be the day’s big upset. Nowrozi eventually won in five after recovering from a 2-0 deficit and goes on to compete in his first ever PSA World Tour quarter-final.
