World No.145 Iker Pajares Bernabeu’s stunning run at the Qatar Circuit II, PSA M15 event continued in earnest with the 19-year-old coming through a second successive five-game epic to see off number three seed Danish Atlas Khan.
Pajares, who ended home interest by recovering from a 2-0 deficit to eliminate Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi in the previous round, had to dig into his energy reserves throughout the 64-minute affair with a multitude of punishing rallies setting the scene for an intense battle on court.
Tied up at 2-2 going into the fifth game, Pajares managed to go up a gear and take advantage of Khan’s tiring legs to seal a gruelling 11-7, 5-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8 victory to move through to only his second ever PSA World Tour semi-final.
He will need to defeat a third consecutive seed if he is to make an appearance in the final after title favourite Omar Abdel Meguid eased past Youssef Soliman to ensure that he will face the Spaniard for a place in the showpiece event.
Ivan Yuen and Jens Schoor will line up against each other in the other semi-final meanwhile after they rose to respective victories against Abdullah Al Muzayen and Martin Knight.
