Number one seed Ben Coleman safely secured his passage into the quarter-final of the Holtrand Open, PSA M10 event with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Matthew Serediak in the event’s opening round.
Coleman wrapped up the victory in just 25 minutes after a scintillating display that saw him dominate proceedings in Medicine Hat to wrap up a comfortable 11-6, 11-1, 11-5 triumph.
Facing Coleman in the next round is Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong who came through a hard-fought five-game encounter against number eight seed James Huang to make a strong start to his first PSA World Tour event of the year.
Home favourite Shawn Delierre, meanwhile, came from a game down to defeat fellow Canadian and qualifier Nicholas Sachvie 3-1. The number two seed looked to be heading to a shock defeat at the hands of a player ranked 131 places below him but the World No.57 but soon upped his game to take the victory in four.
Fifth seed Andrew Schnell will meet Delierre in an all-Canadian quarter-final clash after he eliminated wildcard Brock Janzer in straight game.
There were also comfortable victories for Martin Knight, Reiko Peter and Angus Gillams who defeated Bryan Byrne, Adam Murrills and Matias Tuomi, respectively.
