There were no surprises in the first round of the Bankers Hall Club Pro Am, PSA M10 event as all eight seeded players progressed safely into the quarter-final.
The tie of the round was undoubtedly the thrilling encounter between Mexico’s Arturo Salazar and home player Andrew Schnell.
After a gruelling five-game battle, it was the former who came out on top, courtesy of an 11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7 triumph to ensure that he will face third seed Ben Coleman in the next round after the Englishman defeated Matias Tuomi.
Top seed Shaun Le Roux, meanwhile, was given a bye and some much needed rest as he prepares to face Martin Knight in the last eight thanks to the New Zealander’s comfortable 3-0 win over Shahjahan Khan.
Elsewhere, Eric Galvez and Reiko Peter both gained straight games victories over Addeen Idrakie and Matthew Serediak, respectively. Galvez advances to Shawn Delierre, who beat James Huang.
Peter on the other hand will face Raphael Kandra after the German dispatched Chi Him Wong in four.
