Karim Abdel Gawad points to the heavens after reaching his second PSA M70 semi-final

Sweden Update: Gawad Battles Through to Semis

World No.9 Karim Abdel Gawad came though a brutal five-game-thriller against eighth seed Chris Simpson to reach the semi-final stage of the 2016 UCS Swedish Open in Linköping.

Both players partook in a veritable feast of attacking squash and put on a show in front of an enraptured crowd but it was Gawad who eventually shaded the contest, prevailing courtesy of a 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7 scoreline.

From there though, Gawad upped his game brilliantly and showcased his enormous talent with some outrageous winners, duly obliterating Simpson’s lead to go 2-1 ahead.

The 24-year-old fell to defeat in the fourth game after some clever shots from Simpson gave the World No.23 a foothold in the match but Gawad’s artistry at the front of the court was soon back in full flow and he ended up taking the fifth game to earn a place in the last four.

[2] Karim Abdel Gawad (EGY) bt [8] Chris Simpson (ENG) 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7 (66m)
