A victorious 'Hammer of Thor'
Colombia Update: Magnificent Mosaad Comeback Sends Momen Out
#PSAWorldTour
Egyptian World No.4 Omar Mosaad fought fatigue and humid conditions to mount a stunning comeback against Tarek Momen in the semi-final of the 2016 Taeq SquashColombia PSA Open and set up a final encounter with World No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy.
Mosaad was put under immediate pressure by a ruthless Momen in the opening exchanges and looked to be struggling physically as he succumbed to a two-game deficit. ‘The Hammer of Thor’ fought back though in a virtuoso display full to the brim with tenacity and determination as he rose to claim the victory courtesy of an 8-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-9 scoreline.

Subscribe to SQUASHTV“This is the third time I have played Tarek in the last year,” said Mosaad.
“He played really well in the first two games and I thought that the match would be ending soon but in the third game I started to play well and I started to lead in the game. I changed my style and my tactics a little bit and it worked in the third and fourth games. After the fourth I started thinking that, now it was 2-2, I could go on and win the match so I started to focus again and take things step-by-step, point-by-point and I’m happy to make it and reach the final.”
Coming just one day after he ruthlessly dispatched Australian No.1 Cameron Pilley in a scintillating quarter-final performance, Momen looked set to continue his rich vein of form into his clash with World Championship runner-up Mosaad and plucked a vast array of deceptive winners from his repertoire as he swept to wins in the first two games.

The last time Momen surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose was back in 2007, highlighting the uphill battle that Mosaad faced at that point. However, far from being a death knell to the tall Egyptian’s hopes of reaching a maiden PSA M100 final, Mosaad rallied after errors began to creep into Momen’s game and he stormed to early leads in games three and four to level proceedings and set up a dramatic fifth game finale.
From there, it was nip and tuck and tuck all the way with both players struggling to establish themselves against the backdrop of Cartagena’s striking Plaza de la Aduana.
It was Mosaad who managed to push just that little bit further to close out the victory and walk away with an extremely hard-earned triumph.
