Ashour's place at the PSA Dubai World Series Finals in doubt

Road2Dubai: Ashour In Race To Qualify

After withdrawing from this week’s Windy City Open presented by Guggenheim Partners and Equitrust Life Insurance Company, the sixth PSA World Series tournament of the 2015/16 season, two-time PSA World Series Finals winner Ramy Ashour is in danger of missing out on an appearance at the lucrative season-ending tournament which takes place in Dubai from May 24-28.

The injury-blighted Egyptian has made just one PSA World Series appearance this season – when his Delaware Investments U.S. Open campaign came to a premature second round end – and currently sits at No.36 on the standings, 60 points behind Australian Ryan Cuskelly who holds the No.8 and last qualifier berth.

Only the top eight players on the ‘Road To Dubai Standings’ will qualify for the chance to battle it out for the last title of the season and with only the Allam British Open and El Gouna International left to play, Ashour will have to go all-out to keep his hopes alive of competing alongside major-title rivals Mohamed Elshorbagy, Gregory Gaultier and Nick Matthew.

Ashour isn’t the only big name facing the prospect of missing this year’s tournament as former World No.1 James Willstrop and former World No.5 Borja Golan also find themselves a long way off a coveted top eight place, while the likes of Daryl Selby, Mazen Hesham and Tarek Momen are amongst others who find themselves agonisingly behind in the Race To Dubai while in the women’s side of the competition US Open runner-up Nour El Tayeb, former World No.2 Jenney Duncalf and former World No.4 Joelle King are amongst high profile names currently outside the qualification positions.

The next stop on the PSA World Series, the Windy City Open, takes place at the University Club of Chicago from February 25 – March 02. Tickets for the 2016 Windy City Open presented by Guggenheim Partners and EquiTrust Life Insurance Company starting at just $20 and can be purchased at
