WindyCity Update: El Welily Storms Past Aumard

Defending Windy City Open champion Raneem El Welily began the defence of her title at the University Club of Chicago with an emphatic straight-games victory over Coline Aumard of France, taking just 20 minutes to see off the qualifier.

In a performance that underlines her ambitions to retain the crown and secure a return to winning ways at the very top level of the PSA World Tour after a bad run of form over the past four month, the World No.3 conceded just 6 points throughout the encounter as she completely outclassed Aumard from the opening rally.

“I love being here in Chicago and I had two great events here previously so hopefully it will be the same again this year,” said El Welily.

“Obviously everyone is here to win so I’m trying to just make sure I enjoy it and take it match by match.”
