The PSA are pleased to announce that former professional squash player and current England High Performance Squash Coach Lee Drew has been appointed as the PSA’s Referee and Refereeing Director.

The newly-created position will see Drew (pictured above, right, with Simon Parke), who reached a career high 45 in the World Rankings, combine his work with England’s elite players with developing enhanced assessment methods to aid the improvement of refereeing standards across the PSA World Tour.

“We’re very pleased to have Lee join us to oversee the structure and development of refereeing within the PSA World Tour,” said PSA CEO Alex Gough.

“Refereeing at the professional level is an unenviable task and we are confident that Lee’s experience as a professional player, combined with his vast experience as a top class coach, will be a valuable asset to the refereeing programme.

“We look forward to working closely with him over the coming months to help improve standards and to attract new referees to the sport.”

Drew will also work closely with the World Squash Federation, National Federations and regional squash bodies to help develop and discover new referees and oversee ongoing referee development programmes and training.

“I’m very excited to be joining the PSA as their Refereeing Director in what will be a challenging and stimulating role,” said Drew.

“Refereeing is an integral part of every sport and my task is to ensure that current referees have the support structures and critical analysis that will help them improve their standards and to also ensure that initiatives are in place to attract more new referees into the game.”
