World No.138 Giselle Delgado, the only current active Chilean player on the PSA World Tour across both the Men’s and Women’s games, came out on top of her first qualifying round fixture in the Women’s Samson Seattle Open, PSA W10 tournament after a commanding victory over local player Claire Rein-Weston.
Delgado was tactically astute throughout the 35-minute affair and moved her opponent around court impressively as she took three games without reply to earn an 11-9, 11-8, 13-11 triumph.
Up next for the 27-year-old is a final qualifying round clash with Canada’s Danielle Letourneau after she claimed a bye to advance.
Meanwhile, Dutch World No.194 Elena Wagenmans came through her encounter with Kate Nimmo in straight games to stay in with a chance of reaching only her second ever PSA World Tour main draw, the first of which came at this event last year. Top seed Alison Thomson will be her opponent in the next round.
Another of the day’s fixtures saw Nicole Bunyan defeat Arisha Khan 3-0. Bunyan produced a hugely impressive performance and lost only a handful of points in just 17 minutes to set up a meeting with Diana Garcia in the next round.
Elsewhere, Laila Sedky downed compatriot Claire Gomersall in an all-American tie and will face off against Melina Turk for a place in the main draw action.
