BritOpen Update: Farag Dispatches Richards
#PSAWorldTour
Egypt’s Ali Farag continued his superb recent form on the PSA World Tour with a straight games victory over English wildcard Tom Richards in round one of the 2016 Allam British Open, PSA World Series tournament.
The rangy 23-year-old has been playing some of the best squash of his career in recent months, downing World No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy and three-time World Champion Nick Matthew en route to winning the Motor City Open back in January, before capturing the Montreal Open crown just a number of weeks ago.

Subscribe to SQUASHTVHis fine form showed no signs of abating in his opening round fixture with Richards as a typically powerful display from the World No.14 allowed him to achieve the victory without dropping a solitary game, with a 11-6, 11-6, 11-5 scoreline seeing him through to the next round.
“This is my first ever British Open and it’s the second biggest tournament of the year after the World Championship so I feel very happy to be in the second round,” said Farag.
“Tom’s a really good player, we all know how good he is, so I’m please to get through in three games today.”
Up next for Farag is another meeting with Matthew after the World No.3 downed fellow Englishman Adrian Waller in his first round fixture.
Farag is eagerly anticipating a rematch with ‘The Wolf’ but is wary of the threat that the experienced Englishman poses.
“I’m very much looking forward to this match because I know how great of a champion he is. He will be out for revenge so I’m going to be ready for that and I am excited for it. I am taking this event one match at a time but I go to every tournament aiming to win it.
“Hopefully the next round goes well and, if I win, I will focus on the match after but I think that everyone is aiming to win it.”
