Malaysian duo Gurshan Singh and Bryan Lim Tze Kang earned their places in the main draw of the Malaysian Squash Tour I, PSA M5 tournament after they rose to respective wins over Shaun Kwan and Mohd Farez Izwan, respectively, in their final qualifying round clashes.
World No.261 Singh came through in four against his opponent, Shaun Kawan. The 20-year-old dropped the first game but came storming back to rack up an 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 victory to secure a place in the main draw of his first tournament in 2016.
Sing will contest an all-Malaysian first round tie with number four seed Mohd Syafiq Kamal as he bids to reach the quarter-final of a PSA World Tour event for the first time in his career.
Kang, meanwhile, had to dig in against compatriot Izwan in a dramatic five-game thriller. The 20-year-old from Seremban fell to a 2-1 deficit after winning the opening game but steadied the ship to take the next two without reply and seal a spot in the main draw’s opening round. He will face Eain Yow Ng there and could meet top seed Lance Beddoes in the last eight if both players win their respective round one fixtures.
Number one qualifying seed Jong Myoung Park is out after succumbing to Andrew Lee in a straight games defeat. Lee’s reward is a next round meeting with South Korea’s Ko Youngjo who will look to avenge his compatriot’s defeat to Lee.
The other final qualifying round match saw Hong Kong’s Chris Lo come out on top with a 3-1 win over Vivian Rhamanan and he will play Beddoes in round one.
