Matthew Lai and Yeung Ho Wai sealed their places in the main draw of the Contrex Challenge Cup, PSA M5 tournament thanks to respective wins over Ahmed Al Kiremli and Russell Chan on home soil in the final qualifying round in Hong Kong.
Lai romped to victory in the opening game of his encounter with World No.300 Al Kiremli for the loss of just two points and he followed that up with straightforward wins in games two and three to record an 11-2, 11-8, 11-4 victory, ensuring that he will compete in the main draw stage.
Up next for Lai is a meeting against compatriot Tsun Hei Yuen, where a victory could see him pitted against top seed Chi Him Wong in the quarter-final.
Ho Wai, meanwhile, overcame Chan in straight games to set up a main draw clash with Eain Yow Ng, the 18-year-old Malaysian who is looking to rediscover the form that saw him capture a maiden PSA World Tour title back in April.
Elsewhere, top qualifying seed Mohd Farez Izwan will join Lai and Wai in the main draw after he swept past Han Seung Cheol courtesy of a 3-1 triumph, and he will take on Egypt’s Basem Makram for a place in the quarter-final.
Pakistan’s Syed Ali Mujtaba Shah Bokhari was the other player to emerge from the final round of qualifying unscathed after he eased past Wong King Yueng and he will do battle with sixth seed Tsz Kwan Lau in the main draw’s first round.
