Hong Kong qualifier Yeung Ho Wai followed up his superb opening round victory over second seed Eain Yow Ng by overcoming compatriot Henry Leung in the last eight of the Contrex Challenge Cup, PSA M5 event after injury scuppered Leung’s chances of reaching a maiden PSA World Tour semi-final.
An engaging contest saw each player take two games apiece to send the match into a decider, in which Yeung amassed five match balls to put him on the verge of reaching the last four.
Leung had been struggling with injury though and was unable to see out the match, meaning that Yeung moved successfully past the opponent that he had lost to in the previous year’s Hong Kong Nationals.
Yeung will look to maintain his stunning progress thus far against number three seed Tang Ming Hong, who secured a straightforward 3-0 victory over Bryan Lim Tze Kang.
Chi Him Wong and Tsz Kwan Lau will contest the other semi-final fixture, with Chi beating Tsun Hei Yuen in four games, while Kwan Lau dispatched Mohd Farez Izwan to reach his first PSA World Tour semi-final.
