World No.176 Tsz Kwan Lau captured the first PSA World Tour title of his career after triumphing over Spanish number two seed Bernat Jaume in the final of the Amir Kabir Open, PSA M5 tournament held in Arak, Iran.
Lau, the 20-year-old from Hong Kong, was in inspired form to dispatch local qualifier Alireza Shameli in round one, before going on to defeat Hasanain Dakheel and Sajad Zareian Jahromi in the quarter-final and semi-final stages, respectively to reach a maiden PSA World Tour final.
Jaume, meanwhile, was appearing in only his second Tour final after finishing as the runner-up at last year’s IMET Open and achieved wins over Mohammed Ferman Hasan, Chris Lo and Samieollah Ghasedabadi en route to the final.
Jaume began the match full of attacking intent and the World No.138 rose to a one-game lead in the duo’s first ever meeting on the PSA World Tour.
But a steely response from Lau saw him halt Jaume’s momentum and he took the next three games to close out a 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 victory to take the crown.
