Defending champion Camille Serme will look to continue her impressive form and retain her title when the 2017 Cleveland Classic gets under way in Pepper Pike on Friday February 17.
The 28-year-old World No.2 has won two of the last tournaments she has entered, defeating World No.1 Nour El Sherbini at the Delaware Investments U.S. Open back in October 2016, before following that up by triumphing in the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions last month.
The Frenchwoman beat World No.5 Laura Massaro in the final of the ToC in New York’s iconic Grand Central Terminal and the pair were seeded to meet again in the final of the Cleveland Classic, until Massaro was forced to pull out of the tournament due to an elbow injury.
Massaro, 33, has lifted two PSA World Tour titles throughout the 2016/17 season at the China Open and NetSuite Open, and the Englishwoman, who has lost out to Serme in her last two tournaments, will miss an opportunity to get revenge in Ohio.
As a result, 2016 runner-up Alison Waters moves up to occupy the number two seeding and the former World No.3 will aim to go one better than last year where she lost 3-1 to Serme in the showpiece finale.
Waters lines up against United States No.2 Olivia Blatchford in round one, while three other English players will make the trip across the Atlantic in search of victory, with World No.8 Sarah-Jane Perry, World No.15 Emily Whitlock and World No.16 Victoria Lust also in action.
Number three seed Perry will look to build on her successful start to the 2016/17 season after reaching three semi-finals at the Al Ahram Open, Carol Weymuller Open and the ToC.
The 26-year-old from Birmingham clashes with Egypt’s Mariam Metwally in the opening round, while Whitlock and Lust meet Line Hansen and Liu Tsz-Ling, respectively.
Indian No.1 Joshna Chinappa and Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb complete the main draw, and both players return to the United States looking to better their last 16 finish at the ToC earlier this year.
