Weekend RoundUp: Charlton, Bonmalais and Dowling Seal Tour Titles

Three PSA World Tour events came to an end at the weekend as Australia’s Rhys Dowling and France’s Sebastien Bonmalais both claimed their maiden PSA World Tour titles.

At The City of Devonport Tasmanian Open it was an all-Australian affair in the final as World No.137 Dowling beat top seed Matthew Hopkin in a gruelling five-game encounter to win his first PSA World Tour title.

World No.134 Hopkin had not dropped a game going into the final but Dowling was able to fight back from a game down to win 4-11, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-5 in 50 minutes.

Another player also claimed their maiden PSA World Tour title as World No.170 Bonmalais claimed victory over England’s World No.217 Nick Mulvey.

Bonmalais, who did not drop a single game all tournament, dominated his opponent to see out a 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 victory to lift the Gibraltar Open PSA M5 title.

Meanwhile, top seed England’s World No.99 Eddie Charlton outplayed his Colombian opponent, World No.106 Juan Vargas, to clinch the BTMI Barbados Open PSA M5 title.

The first game was a tight affair as neither player led by more than two points at any stage until Charlton won four of the last five points to snatch the first game 13-11. The Englishman then continued to dominate as he saw out a 13-11, 11-5, 11-5 victory to lift his eighth PSA World Tour title.
