After claiming their first ever PSA World Series titles at the U.S. Open, married couple Ali Farag and Nour El Tayeb have been named the PSA Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month, respectively, for October.
Farag enjoyed a rich vein of form during October as he defeated compatriot and former World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy in the final of the U.S. Open to clinch his maiden PSA World Series title just hours after his wife, as they made history by becoming the first married couple in sport to win the same major title on the same day.
A week later, Farag made it to the final of the Channel VAS Championships at St George’s Hill, however he was unable to make it two victories in a row against ElShorbagy as his opponent came out on top 3-1 to claim the PSA M100 title.
The Harvard-graduate’s strong start to the season has also seen him move up a spot on the Men’s World Rankings this month to claim a career-high ranking of World No.4.

October also proved to be a happy month for Farag’s wife, El Tayeb, as she played some of her best squash in Philadelphia to seal her first PSA World Series title – beating compatriot Raneem El Welily in the final of the U.S. Open.
El Tayeb was on fire throughout the tournament as she saw off World No.1 Nour El Sherbini and World No.4 Laura Massaro en route to the final, before coming from 2-1 down against El Welily to seal the title.
Following her title joy at the U.S. Open, the 24-year-old went onto make the quarter-finals of the Carol Weymuller Open, losing out to eventual winner El Sherbini.
Like Farag, the Egyptian also saw an improvement in her World Ranking as she rose back into the top ten – moving up six places to World No.8.
