Raneem El Welily

Cleveland Classic: Draw Preview

Main draw action from the Cleveland Classic takes place today when the top players on the Women’s Tour battle it out for the PSA W50 title at the Cleveland Racquet Club.

World Champion Raneem El Welily heads up the draw as she takes on Belgian qualifier Tinne Gilis in round one after she overcame England’s Jasmine Hutton and Mexico’s Samantha Teran to reach the main draw.

Number two seed England’s Sarah-Jane Perry is at the opposite end of the draw and will face Egyptian qualifier Nouran El Torky.

Meanwhile, England’s World No.10 Alison Waters – who finished runner-up at the tournament to France’s Camille Serme in both 2017 and 2016 – will line up against tournament wildcard Spain’s Marina De Juan Gallach as the Englishwoman looks to go one better at this year’s instalment.

New Zealand’s World No.9 Joelle King will line up against Canada’s Hollie Naughton in round one, while United States Amanda Sobhy – who made her return from a 10-month injury lay-off at the recent Tournament of Champions – will take on compatriot Haley Mendez for a place in the quarter-finals.

Sobhy and Medez’s fellow American Olivia Blatchford will face Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy, with an all-English battle between Fiona Moverley and Victoria Lust also featuring in round one. While, England’s Millie Tomlinson and Wales Tesni Evans also clash for a place in the quarter-finals.
