Egypt’s World No.3 Marwan ElShorbagy and South Africa’s World No.58 Alexandra Fuller have been named the PSA Players of the Month for April after both players enjoyed title wins.
24-year-old ElShorbagy secured his first World Series title at the recent El Gouna International as he blitzed past compatriot and U.S. Open winner Ali Farag in just 39 minutes to win 3-0 in the final.
The World No.3 – who defeated his older brother Mohamed in the semi-finals – was rarely troubled by an out-of-sorts Farag as he dominated his fellow Egyptian and played an impeccable match of squash, outclassing his compatriot to take an 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 victory to win a World Series final at the third attempt, joining his brother on the list of El Gouna International tournament winners in the process.
The win also led to ElShorbagy reaching a career high of World No.3 in May’s World Rankings.
Meanwhile, South African Fuller enjoyed a dominant spell in April as she claimed back-to-back titles at the Assore Balwin Gauteng Open and the Keith Grainger Memorial UCT Open Squash Championships – not dropping a single game throughout either tournament.
World No.58 Fuller defeated compatriot and World No.67 Milnay Louw in straight-games in both finals as she marched towards her fifth and sixth PSA World Tour titles.
Fuller claimed the Assore Balwin Gauteng Open after dispatching Louw in just 27 minutes to win 11-6, 11-5, 11-7. The South African then backed this up again with a 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 win in 33 minutes the week after to claim the Keith Grainger Memorial UCT Open Squash Championships.
These wins also saw Fuller climb the World Rankings as she reached a career high of World No.58 in May’s rankings.
