The Sporta Guatemala XI Torneo Internacional PSA 2018 takes place this week with a high-quality draw in action from May 23-26 when the main draw of the PSA M50 tournament takes place.
Recent Allam British Open winner Miguel Angel Rodriguez will be taking part in the tournament after his ground-breaking victory in Hull which saw the unseeded player beat World No.1 and World Champion Mohamed ElShorbagy in the final.
Rodriguez – who was a semi-finalist at last year's tournament in Guatemala – will line up against Spanish qualifier Edmon Lopez in round one.
Meanwhile, New Zealand’s World No.10 Paul Coll leads the draw and will face Mexican qualifier Alfredo Avila in round one, who recently claimed the Paraguay Open title.
The Kiwi recently picked up a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and finished a quarter-finalist at the British Open and he will be looking to finish his 2017/18 campaign on a high with a title at his last tournament of the season.
Defending champion Mohamed Abouelghar is the number two seed and will also line up against English qualifier Charles Sharpes in round one. The Egyptian World No.9 beat compatriot Zahed Mohamed – who will face tournament wildcard India’s Vikram Malhotra in round one year this year – 3-0 in last year’s final.
Meanwhile, other big contenders for the PSA M50 title see Peru’s World No.12 Diego Elias face Spain’s World No.55 Iker Pajares Bernabeu in round one. Elias has seen the second-half of his season plagued by injury but will be hoping to claim his first title of the season in Guatemala.
