Mohamed Abouelghar at the 2017 Tournament of Champions

Sporta Guatemala XI Torneo Internacional PSA: Abouelghar Crashes Out

Defending champion Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar suffered defeat to number eight seed Arturo Salazar in the quarter-finals of the Sporta Guatemala XI Torneo Internacional PSA.

Mexico’s World No.47 Salazar defeated number two seed and World No.9 Abouelghar by an 11-5, 11-6, 3-11, 11-9 scoreline in 41 minutes to secure his place in the semi-finals of the PSA M50 tournament. The Mexican will now face Peru’s Diego Elias after he took out Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng – who was the only unseeded player to reach the quarter-finals – in straight-games to win 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 in 25 minutes.

Elsewhere, Arturo will not be joined by brother Cesar Salazar in the semi-finals after he was knocked out by top seed New Zealand’s Paul Coll by an 11-8, 11-1, 11-2 margin in 31 minutes.

World No.10 Coll will now face Allam British Open winner Miguel Angel Rodriguez in a mouth-watering semi-final clash.

The ‘Colombian Cannonball’ took out last year’s runner-up Egypt’s Zahed Mohamed 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 as he looks to continue his rich vein of form by claiming the PSA M50 title.
