Tickets for the 2018 Open International de Squash de Nantes – the biggest PSA World Tour event in France – are now on general sale and squash fans will be given the chance to watch a top-class draw line up at the stunning Théâtre Graslin, built in the 18th century, between September 4-9.
The Open International de Squash de Nantes has taken world-class squash to some of the most eye-catching venues in Nantes, such as Les Machines de L’Ile – home to the incredible Grand Éléphant – and the Cité Internationale des Congrès, one of the top convention centres in France. Each year, this unique event has showcased the excitement of squash and the picturesque city of Nantes to legions of spectators worldwide.
Since its inception in 2014, the Open International de Nantes has combined sport and culture and this year’s tournament will be no different, with a state-of-the-art all-glass showcourt set to be erected in the beautiful setting of the Théâtre Graslin, one of the most beautiful and historic theatres in Europe.
$46,000 worth of prize money will be on offer across the men’s and women’s events – – a $6,000 increase compared to last year and the third year in succession that the prize money has risen.
Last year saw home favourite Gregoire Marche claim his third successive title, while England’s Fiona Moverley claimed the women’s crown in front of a packed out crowd.
“One of our key goals is to display both culture and world-class sport side by side while showing off the beautiful city of Nantes. We are delighted to take the tournament to the Théâtre Graslin this year. The venue will dramatise the fight between players and give spectators an unparalleled viewing experience,” said Tournament Promoter François Le Jort.
“The ability to install a glass court in almost any environment has enabled us to showcase some of the most stunning venues Nantes has to offer. As squash is vying to be included in the Olympic programme, the Open International de Nantes effectively demonstrates how the spectacular sport of squash can contribute to the attraction of the host city. We are looking forward to another exciting week of action in September.”
All of the action from the glass court during the main draw will be shown live on SQUASHTV (Rest of World) and Eurosport Player (Europe only).
