Weekend Roundup: Whitlock Claims Biggest Title

England’s Emily Whitlock claimed her 17th – and biggest – PSA Tour title over the weekend after the World No.22 overcame Canada’s Samantha Cornett by a 3-0 margin in the final of the Nash Cup, PSA Challenger Tour event.

Whitlock, 24, was in dominant form throughout the tournament in London, Canada as she went through the whole event without dropping a single game, culminating in an 11-9, 13-11, 11-5 victory over the home favourite.

The men’s final took place the day before and saw Mexico’s Alfredo Avila capture his 11th title after dispatching Jamaica’s Christopher Binnie 3-2.

Meanwhile, Annie Au and Max Lee made it a Hong Kong double at the HKFC International.

World No.11 Au got the better of Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy to capture a 15th PSA Tour title, while Au’s brother – Leo – lost out to Lee in the men’s final, with Lee taking an 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 triumph to record his 14th PSA Tour final victory.

It was also a good weekend for Hong Kong squash in Beijing as World No.148 Henry Leung defeated compatriot Chi Him Wong to claim a maiden PSA Tour crown, while India’s Aditya Jagtap made it two titles in a row after getting the better of top seed Faraz Khan at the Kiva Club Open.

There was better news for Khan’s compatriot Todd Harrity, who qualified for February’s PSA World Championships after downing England’s Joshua Masters in Madeira..
