QSF No.1 RoundUp: Mixed Fortunes for Top Seeds on Day Two

There was mixed fortunes for the top seeds in round two of the QSF No.1 PSA Bronze tournament as Cameron Pilley, Eain Yow Ng and Chris Simpson all fell to defeats.

England’s George Parker enjoyed a big win over Australia’s World No.21 Pilley as the World No.44 stormed to a straight-games victory over the experienced Australian at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex, where the Qatar Classic was held earlier this month.

22-year-old Parker defied the seedings to complete an impressive 17-15, 11-5, 11-7 victory in 42 minutes and advance to the quarter-finals, where he will face Malaysia’s Ivan Yuen.

Yuen also enjoyed his own upset in the second round after he defeated number seven seed Chris Simpson in straight-games.
World No.57 Yuen was in strong form to condemn Englishman Simpson to an 11-6, 11-9, 11-9 defeat in 41 minutes and bring a premature end to his time in Qatar.

Unfortunately for Yuen’s fellow countryman Eain Yow Ng he did not enjoy the same fate as his compatriot as he failed to comeback against England’s World No.53 Joshua Masters.

Masters twice took the lead with World No.45 Yow Ng coming back both times, however, the Englishman proved to have too much for the Malaysian in the fifth as he completed an 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-8 win to reach the quarter-finals. Masters will now take on top seed and former World No.3 Omar Mosaad, after he defeated Jamaica’s Christopher Binnie 3-1 in round two.

There was also joy for the home crowd as favourite Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi came through the second round unscathed to reach the quarter-finals on home soil, where he will face England’s number three seed Daryl Selby after he defeated experienced Fin Olli Tuominen by a 4-11, 11-3, 13-11, 11-7 margin.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Raphael Kandra and Scotland’s Greg Lobban completed the day’s victories after they saw off Egypt’s Mohamed Reda and England’s Richie Fallows, respectively to set up a quarter-final clash against each other.

Quarter-final action starts from 17:00 local time (GMT+3). Stay up to date with live scores from the tournament here.
