Former World No.1 Laura Massaro and Wales’ World No.9 Tesni Evans will meet in the final of the Monte-Carlo Squash Classic PSA Challenger event.
England’s Massaro overcame Egypt’s number four seed Mayar Hany by an 11-8, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8 scoreline to reach her first final since the 2017 PSA Dubai World Series Finals – when she beat Nour El Sherbini in the final.
Meanwhile, Evans came through a five-game thriller with England’s Millie Tomlinson to reach the final.
The Welshwoman held a two-game lead, before Tomlinson – who enjoyed a big win two weeks ago over eight-time World Champion Nicol David in Hong Kong – fired back to level the scores and force the match to a tense fifth. However, Evans was able to utilise her experience to prevail 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-13, 11-9 in 87 minutes.
Massaro and Evans will now go head-to-head for the title, with the two players enjoying some feisty battles in years gone by.
The two British women have met twice on the PSA Tour, with the head-to-head level at one match apiece, however, Evans did secure the last victory at the PSA World Championships where she took out Massaro in the second round of the prestigious tournament.
