Miguel Rodriguez is the No.2 seed

Motor City Open: Tournament Preview

The Suburban Collection Motor City Open begins today, with a top-quality draw in action for the PSA Silver tournament in Detroit, United States.

The 20th edition of the tournament will be held at the Birmingham Athletic Club and will see a number of big names in action, with the draw led by Egypt’s World No.8 Marwan ElShorbagy and 2018 British Open winner Miguel Rodriguez.

ElShorbagy – who claimed the title last season after defeating New Zealand’s Paul Coll in an epic five-game battle – is seeded on the same side of the draw as the likes of Peru’s World No.11 Diego Elias, Australia’s World No.14 Ryan Cuskelly and Egypt’s former World No.3 Omar Mosaad.

ElShorbagy, along with the other top eight seeds, receives a bye into the second round and will face either England’s Richie Fallows or compatriot Mazen Hesham for a place in the last eight.

Seeded at the opposite end of the draw is Colombia’s Rodriguez, who is seeded to meet Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar in the semi-finals.

British Open winner Rodriguez will first have to navigate his way through a draw that also contains the likes of Germany’s World No.15 Raphael Kandra and Switzerland’s World No.18 Nicolas Mueller.

Home interest, meanwhile, comes in the form of United States No.1 Todd Harrity and World No.63 Chris Hanson, who face India’s Vikram Malhotra and New Zealand’s Campbell Grayson, respectively, in round one.
