Pittsburgh Open: Tournament Preview

The Three Rivers Capital Pittsburgh Open begins today, with Australia’s Ryan Cuskelly and Switzerland’s Nicolas Mueller leading the line-up at the PSA World Tour Bronze tournament between February 6-10.

The 2019 edition of the Pittsburgh Open will be a Bronze tier tournament for the first time, while the prize money has more than doubled to $52,000, with a high-quality draw battling it out for the title at the Rivers Club.

Round one takes place today at 17:00 local time (UTC-5) when Switzerland's World No.70 Dimitri Steinmann takes on Mexico's World No.43 Arturo Salazar. The winner will go on to face top seed Cuskelly in round two.

World No.18 Cuskelly – who along with the other top eight seeds receives a bye into the second round – is seeded on the same side of the draw as the likes of Hong Kong’s World No.27 Leo Au, Mexico’s World No.31 Cesar Salazar and France’s World No.30 Gregoire Marche.

Seeded at the opposite end of the draw is Switzerland’s No.1 Mueller who could face Egypt’s World No.22 Zahed Salem in the semi-finals, but will first have to navigate through a draw which includes the likes of Egypt’s World No.33 Youssef Soliman and Malaysia’s World No.36 Nafiizwan Adnan.

Home interest comes in the form of United States No.1 Todd Harrity and World No.65 Chris Hanson, who will face India’s World No.56 Mahesh Mangaonkar and Scotland’s World No.46 Alan Clyne in the opening round.

England’s Lyell Fuller and Egypt’s Mustafa Nawar occupy the wildcard spots and will face Wales’ World No.61 Peter Creed and England’s World No.57 Richie Fallows, respectively, in round one.

The event is open to the public to attend and will be held at the Rivers Club in Pittsburgh.
