Diego Elias is the men's No.1 seed for the Macau Open

Macau Open Tournament Preview

Wednesday sees the start of the Macau Open, a PSA Bronze event on the east coast of the Asian continent.

There will be two home favourites in the field for the tournament, with Manuel Gassmann receiving a wild card spot on the men’s side. Liu Kwai Chi has the wild card spot in the women’s draw.

Diego Elias is the No.1 seed on the men’s side of the tournament, with Saurav Ghosal and Omar Mosaad among the top seeds in the draw.

Tsz Fung Yip, Max Lee and Leo Au are all among the eight seeded men, with Hong Kong having a heavy representation in the tournament.

Greg Lobban of Scotland, and Malaysia’s Nafiizwan Adnan are the other two seeded players, who have received a bye through to the second round of the tournament.

The women’s No.1 seed is also from Hong Kong. Annie Au takes top spot in Macau, and she is backed up in the seedings by compatriot Joey Chan.

There are four Egyptians in the top eight seeds in the women’s draw. Salma Hany, Mayar Hany, Zeina Mickawy and Nadine Shahin are all amongst those with a bye into the second round.

Canada’s Samantha Cornett and India’s Joshna Chinappa, who had a great run at the Black Ball Open in Cairo last month, are the other two seeded women in the draw.

Joshna Chinappa is one of the top seeds in the women's draw in Macau

The first round begins on Wednesday at 14:30 local time (GMT +8), as Dimitri Steinmann takes on Mazen Gamal on Court A, and Omar Abdel Meguid faces Shahjahan Khan on Court B.

The seeds will face the winners of the first round ties, and will enter the competition at the next stage, beginning their campaigns on Thursday. The quarter finals then take place on Friday.

The semi finals and final take place over the weekend, and will be shown live on Facebook on the Macau Squash Association page here.
