England's Jasmine Hutton and Colombia's Juan Camilo Vargas with the Keith Grainger titles

Weekend RoundUp: Vargas and Hutton Claim Keith Grainger Memorial Titles

Colombia’s World No.105 Juan Camilo Vargas and England’s World No.77 Jasmine Hutton claimed the Keither Grainger Memorial UCT Squash Open Championship titles over the weekend, as a handful of PSA Challenger tournaments came to an end.

For top seed Vargas it was his second title in the space of two weeks after claiming the Johannesburg Open title at the end of April, as he came back from losing a tight lengthy first game by an 18-16 scoreline to win in four against France’s Fabien Verseille and claim the title.

Meanwhile in the women’s final, number two seed Hutton continued her strong form, which saw her claim her maiden title last month at the Johannesburg Open, as she came from two games down to win 8-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 in 50 minutes and claim her second PSA title.

Elsewhere, France’s top seed Auguste Dussourd overcame United States’ Andrew Douglas in straight-games to win in 54 minutes and take home the New York Squash Hyder Trophy – his fifth PSA title.

Finally, Australia’s Jessica Turnbull reigned victorious against top seed and compatriot Sarah Cardwell at the Sandgate Squash MS Open.

Turnbull went two games up before Cardwell battled back to level the scores and push the match to a deciding fifth, however, it was number two seed Turnbull who was able to close out 13-11, 11-8, 7-11, 8-11, 11-2.
