Marwan ElShorbagy is into the semi finals of the Wimbledon Club Squash Squared Open

Wimbledon: ElShorbagy Battles Past Masotti To Reach Semis

Tournament No.1 seed Marwan ElShorbagy had to win the final two games to come from behind to beat France’s Baptiste Masotti in the quarter finals.

It was the first time that the pair had face off on the PSA World Tour, and it was the Frenchman, ranked 61st in the world, got off to the better start.

He won the first on a tie-break, and after ElShorbagy fought back to take the second, Masotti retook the lead by winning the third 11-7.

However, it would be the Egyptian, the World No.21, who took the victory, as he won both the fourth and fifth games to seal his semi final spot in just under an hour.

He will face countryman Mostafa Asal in the last four, after the 18-year-old defeated India’s Mahesh Mangaonkar in straight games.

The pair had both beaten seeded players to reach this point, in Tom Richards and Cesar Salazar, respectively, and neither man wanted to give up this chance of a semi final spot.

Asal eventually went on to win the first ever meeting between the pair on the Tour, winning all three games 11-9 in a 51-minute battle.

On the other side of the draw, former World No.1 James Willstrop had a monster three-game clash with France’s Lucas Serme, which lasted 70 minutes.

The first game alone took 36 minutes, which the Englishman won in a lengthy tiebreak, 18-16. The 2016 Champion then took the next two games to secure victory, booking his place in the last four.

His opponent in the semi finals will be Iker Pajares Bernabeu, the World No.58. He came through a tricky clash with No.6 seed Daryl Selby, in a match lasting just under an hour.

The Spaniard had already fought his way past No.2 seed Omar Mosaad in a marathon 99 minute clash in the last 16, before beating the Englishman to book his spot in the last four.
