2018/19 Season Review: Rallies of the Season

The CIB PSA World Tour Finals last month brought the curtain down on another thrilling season on the PSA World Tour.

Over the past few weeks we have already looked at the campaign’s outstanding performers, shocks of the season, the players to watch for next year and the best comebacks of the season.

In this part of our season review we’re looking at the greatest rallies from the 2018/19 season.

Joel Makin v Mohamed ElShorbagy – Channel VAS

This marathon mega rally between Egypt’s Mohamed ElShorbagy and Wales’ Joel Makin clocked in at a whopping four minutes and eight seconds.

Raneem El Welily v Nour El Sherbini – DPD Open

This rally had everything, including some outrageous skill from World No.1 Raneem El Welily as she looked to come from a game down and 9-7 down at this point to three-time World Champion and compatriot Nour El Sherbini.

Ali Farag v Paul Coll – PSA World Championships

Check out this absolute marathon of a rally between New Zealand’s Paul Coll and Egypt’s Ali Farag at the sport’s most prestigious tournament, the PSA World Championships, held inside Chicago’s Union Station.

Nele Gilis v Emily Whitlock – Open International de Squash de Nantes

Belgium’s Nele Gilis began her fightback in the final of the Open International de Squash de Nantes after winning this epic rally against England’s top seed Emily Whitlock.

The two players showcased some brilliant squash much to the delight of the packed out crowd inside the Theatre Graslin in France.

Ali Farag v Gregory Gaultier – U.S. Open

SQUASHTV commentators PJ and Joey couldn’t get enough of this high-quality mega rally between France’s former World No.1 Gregory Gaultier – who it was later revealed was playing with a fractured knee – and Egypt’s reigning U.S. Open champion Ali Farag.

Nour El Tayeb v Alison Waters – J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions

Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb famously said that she would never dive again after injuring her shoulder at the 2015 U.S. Open – it’s fair to say that she hasn’t stuck to that as this rally against England’s former World No.3 Alison Waters shows.

Miguel Rodriguez v Cesar Salazar – U.S. Open

This rally showcased Colombia’s Miguel Rodriguez and Mexico’s Cesar Salazar athleticism and skills to their best ability on the all-glass court at the U.S. Open.

Raneem El Welily v Nour El Tayeb – World Tour Finals
A definite rally of the season contender as World No.1 Raneem El Welily delved deep into her bag of tricks against compatriot Nour El Tayeb at Cairo’s World Tour Finals.

Mohamed ElShorbagy v Ali Farag – Oracle NetSuite Open

Egyptians Mohamed ElShorbagy and Ali Farag went toe-to-toe in the final of the Oracle NetSuite Open in San Francisco and this rally showcases the incredible skill of both the World No.1 and World No.2.

Nour El Tayeb v Tesni Evans – Manchester Open

This match proved to be one of the most thrilling of the season as Wales’ Tesni Evans found her back against the wall at the inaugural Manchester Open, however, this big rally helped spark one of the comebacks of the season.
