Hong Kong’s Leo Au is the new QSF Open champion, having beaten home favourite Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi in the final in Doha.
The pair were the top two seeds in the tournament, and had been seeded to meet in the final. They did, with Au winning out in three games.
The final lasted 35 minutes, with Au taking the first two games comfortably. The third was much closer, with Tammy taking it to a tie-break.
However, the Hong Kong No.2 was able to close out the victory, winning the third 13-11 to claim the 11th title of his career, and his first since winning the Malaysian Open in 2017.
To reach the final, Au’s Qatari campaign began with a routine victory over Kuwait’s Ammar Altamimi in the second round.
Victory in his quarter final with Victor Crouin saw Au bring an end to the Frenchman’s tremendous unbeaten run, which had seen him win both the Australian Open and the Tasmanian Open already this month.
Au then had to overcome the 2018-2019 PSA Young Player of the Year. He defeated Youssef Ibrahim in straight games to reach the final.
Both men will next appear at the J.P. Morgan China Squash Open in early September, with the pair on different sides of the draw for the PSA Gold tournament in Shanghai.
