Melissa Alves and Auguste Dussourd with the Nash Cup trophy

Weekend RoundUp: French Delight at Nash Cup as Alves and Dussourd Take Titles

There was double joy for France over the weekend as Melissa Alves and Auguste Dussourd reigned victorious at the Nash Cup in Canada, while Canadian Michael McCue lifted the Kiva Open title.

Top seed Alves was in dominant form in Canada as she swept aside No.2 seed England’s Jasmine Hutton in the final by an 11-9, 11-2, 11-6 scoreline in 29 minutes.

The win marks the World No.45’s fifth and biggest PSA title to date.

In the men’s event, World No.66 Dussourd overcame top seed India’s Vikram Malhotra to pick up his seventh PSA title.

The Frenchman battled back from losing the first game to take a 2-1 lead, before Malhotra came back to draw level. However, Dussourd maintained his focus and powered through the last game to take a 6-11, 11-5, 11-4, 5-11, 11-5 victory in 68 minutes.

Dussourd’s win means that he is the first ever French winner of the men’s title in Canada.

Elsewhere at the Kiva Open in Santa Fe in the United States, top seed McCue romped home to take the title after defeating unseeded Nigeria’s Babatunde Ajabe in the final to win 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 in 34 minutes.

Ajabe was the first ever Nigerian player to reach the final of the tournament, but ultimately fell short in the final as McCue – who didn’t face a seeded player throughout the tournament – was too strong to claim his second PSA title.

At the China Suqian International Squash Classic, Spain’s Carlos Cornes Ribadas and Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yi picked up the titles after defeating Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong and Malaysia’s Yee Xin Ying, respectively.

For Ribadas it was his first PSA title of the year after he defeated his Hong Kong opponent in straight games. While, Lee Ka Yi was made to work hard for her victory as she was pushed all the way by Yee Xin Ying in a five-game thriller.
