United States’ Marina Stefanoni and France’s Auguste Dussourd have secured their places at the PSA World Championships after lifting the women’s and men’s titles, respectively.
Stefanoni has qualified for the CIB PSA Women’s World Championship, which will take place in Cairo, Egypt in October after she defeated Egypt’s Hana Moataz in the final.
Unseeded Moataz had enjoyed a strong tournament, defeating No.2 seed Canada’s Nicole Bunyan in the semi-finals, however, Stefanoni was able to get the edge on the Canadian in the final as she prevailed in a 54-minute five-game battle.
Moataz took the first game, before Stefanoni fought back strongly to move into a 2-1 lead, before the Egyptian took an epic fourth game, 17-15, to level the scores. Stefanoni was able to eventually close out the win courtesy of a 5-11, 11-8, 11-6, 15-17, 11-9.
In the men’s event, top seed Dussourd was in dominant form to down Canada’s Shawn DeLierre in straight games in the final.
The Frenchman put in a comprehensive performance to take out DeLierre by an 11-3, 11-5, 11-7 margin in 40 minutes and secure his place at the PSA Men’s World Championship which will take place in Doha, Qatar in November.
