Egypt’s World No.1 Raneem El Welily set up a quarter final match up with England No.1 Sarah-Jane Perry at the FS Investment U.S. Open Squash Championships after comfortably overcoming compatriot Yathreb Adel in round three.
Defending champion El Welily, who already has one title to her name this season after winning the Oracle NetSuite Open at the end of last month, put in a clinical display as she easily put Adel to the sword in just 22 minutes to reach the last eight.
“I’m very much aware that everyone is at the top of their games right now,” said El Welily afterwards.
“Everyone is trying to win every match and so that is what’s keeping me going at the moment.
“She’s definitely a good player and has won many titles over the years. I was just trying to be as sharp as possible and not let anything go easy or not to let go at any point and that was the plan.
“SJ and I have had so many close matches, it’s always a good match. I have one more day to recover and I’m just happy to be through.”
