Canada’s Samantha Cornett retained her JC Open Crown as a number of PSA Challenger Tour events came to an end over the weekend.
The JC Women’s Open marked Cornett’s first appearance of the season and the Canadian was in strong form as she overcame Egypt’s No.2 Seed Farida Mohamed in straight games to win her 13th PSA title and her ninth on home soil.
Elsewhere at the Queensland Open both home hopes prevailed in the men’s and women’s tournament as Rex Hedrick and Jessica Turnbull took home the titles.
Hedrick claimed his third Queensland Open title in eight years in the men’s draw in Brisbane as he held off a comeback from Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong to take home the title.
Meanwhile in the women’s draw, Turnbull came from a game down against No.1 seed Vanessa Chu to claim her first home win at the Queensland Open since 2015 after finishing runner-up at the tournament last season.
In Barbados, it was Canada’s Shawn DeLierre who prevailed in a 75-minute mammoth final to pick up his 17th PSA title.

The Canadian was made to work hard for his victory as he was pushed all the way by United States’ Christopher Gordon in a thrilling four game final, which saw the last game go to a tie-break.
“I feel wonderful,” said DeLierre afterwards. “I gave it all that I had in that last effort and Chris did too. His retrieving abilities were second to none and I had to battle just tooth and nail just to get one point at the end, which seemed impossible for me.
“I just kept resetting, hoping and just talking to God and my spirit …wishing for good things and thinking about all positive things. With that positivity, I was able to come out the winner. I am so estactic.”
At the Celestino Martinez Memorial Tournament it all went to seeding as United States’ Shahjahan Khan powered past Mexico’s No.2 seed Mario Yanez to take his third PSA title.
