Shahjahan Khan with the Open International Niort Venise Verte trophy

Weekend Round-Up: Khan, Todd and Balazs Earn Titles

Three titles were on offer on the PSA Challenger Tour over the weekend, with all three tournaments taking place in continental Europe.

Shahjahan Khan won in Niort, France, while at the Val de Marne just four hours away, Nikki Todd lifted the trophy. The final event of the week took place in Romania, where Farkas Balazs was victorious.

Khan took his second title of the month in Niort, having already won the Celestino Martinez Memorial Tournament in Palo Alto in his native United States.

In France this weekend, the American had to fight back after losing the first game in the final against home favourite Baptiste Masotti. After an hour’s play in the final, Khan eventually got over the line in a five-game thriller.

The tournament’s No.3 seed had already gotten the better of the No.1 seed Ben Coleman in the semi finals, in another five-game encounter.

The American also defeated Spain’s Sergio Garcia Pollan and England’s No.5 seed Patrick Rooney in the early rounds of the event, as he went on to take the title.

Also in France, Canada’s Nikki Todd took the Val de Marne title after defeating England’s Anna Kimberley in the final, despite losing the first game.

The tournament’s No.1 seed had previously overcome Spain’s Sofia Mateos and Cristian Gomez, the No.3 seed, as well as Nadia Pfister of Switzerland to reach the final.

The third and final event of the weekend saw Hungary’s Farkas Balazs lift the Romanian Open crown after beating Yahya Elnawsany in a 71-minute five-game battle.

The Hungarian had also come through a five-game clash in the semis against No.6 seed Valentin Rapp, having also gotten the better of Hugo Varela and James Peach in the earlier rounds.
