The PSA Challenger Tour staged two title showdowns over the weekend as World No.47 Sabrina Sobhy and World No.95 Daniel Mekbib claimed silverware at the Monte Carlo Squash Classic and IMET Open, respectively.
Sobhy – who was crowned PSA Challenger Tour Player of the Month for November after winning the London Open four weeks ago – made it back-to-back PSA titles for the first time in her career as she overcame Kace Bartley, Donna Lobban to reach the semis where she upset No.2 seed Zeina Mickawy.
Up next was top seed and World No.16 Yathreb Adel, but the fixture went the way of the lower-ranked player, who stormed to an 11-3, 12-10, 11-5 victory in 32 minutes to lift her fourth – and biggest- PSA title.
The top seed did prevail at the IMET Open, however, as Czech Republic’s Mekbib overcame compatriot and No.8 seed Viktor Byrtus to capture his second successive title.
The 27-year-old took the honours at the Medicine Hat Open last month and his IMET Open triumph sees him win his fourth PSA title.
