Year in Review: Matches of the Season – Part Two

The PSA Tour was home to some thrilling action during 2019, with the world’s best players contesting a series of incredible matches at tournament’s in all four corners of the globe.

We’ve picked out some of the best matches from the past 12 months for squash fans to relive and enjoy.

May 2019 – Manchester Open: Tesni Evans v Nour El Tayeb

Welshwoman Tesni Evans produced a monumental comeback against then-World No.3 Nour El Tayeb in the semi-finals of the inaugural Manchester Open PSA Silver event to claim one of her biggest wins.

El Tayeb took control of the match in the beginning to take a commanding 2-0 lead at the National Squash Centre. However, Evans showed her brave resilient nature to take out the No.1 seed at the event in this epic battle.

November 2019 – PSA Men’s World Championship: Tarek Momen v Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi

After meeting just five weeks earlier at the U.S. Open, where Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi pushed Tarek Momen to five games, the two players clashed again at the PSA Men’s World Championship in Qatar.

The Egyptian had to be battle back from the brink against home favourite Al Tamimi as the two players produced another entertaining battle this season.

June 2019 – CIB PSA World Tour Finals: Raneem El Welily v Camille Serme

France’s Camille Serme started strongly in the final of the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals as she was on fire to take a two-game lead to expose the nervous movement of El Welily.

The World No.1 was able to hit her stride in the third, however, to lay the foundations to claim an impressive victory and take the final title honour of the season.

November 2019 – Channel VAS Championships at St. George’s Hill: Mohamed ElShorbagy v Saurav Ghosal

India’s Saurav Ghosal gave the ‘Beast of Alexandria’ Mohamed ElShorbagy a run for his money in the quarter finals of the Channel VAS Championships at St. George’s Hill with the Egyptian forced to save match ball from the clutches of defeat in the fifth.

October 2019 – PSA Women’s World Championship: Hania El Hammamy v Camille Serme

Egyptian World Junior champion Hania El Hammamy claimed the biggest win of her career to date as she stunned France’s Camille Serme to come from two games down at the foot of the iconic Great Pyramid of Giza.
