England’s Tom Ford and Sabrina Sobhy of the United States have been names as the PSA Challenger Tour Players of the Month for December.
The American has now won back-to-back Player of the Month crowns, having also taken the November award after winning the London Open and rising back into the top 50.
In December, she was the only female player to win two titles, making it three on the bounce, as she won the Monte Carlo Squash Classic and the Serena Huawei Pakistan International Squash Tournament.
The Monte Carlo victory was the biggest of her career, and with the two titles, the American has moved into the top 40 of the PSA World Rankings. To win the title, Sobhy had to defeat the top two seeds in the semis and final as well.
In only his second PSA tournament in the last two years, England’s Tom Ford lifted the Cognac Open, despite being unseeded for the event.

The Englishman reeled off a string of surprise victories, in which he defeated four of the top five seeds, including the top three seeds to take the title.
Ford downed No.1 seed Farkas Balazs in the final, having already got the better of No.2 Fabien Verseille, No.5 seed Sam Todd and No.3 seed Roshan Bharos in the earlier rounds.
Other notable performances include Tayyab Aslam and Daniel Mekbib, who both won two tournaments in December, while the likes of Vikram Malhotra, Tomotaka Endo and Marwan Tarek also lifted silverware. Leonel Cardenas also secured a win in the final month of the year, making it five victories in 2019 for the Mexican.
On the women’s side, Aifa Azman and Jana Shiha both won Challenger 5 events, while Hana Ramadan beat the top two seeds en route to winning the HCL SRFI Indian Tour – Mumbai Leg event.
