Egyptian duo Hania El Hammamy and Yathreb Adel, along with England’s former World No.3 Alison Waters confirmed their places in the third round of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions courtesy of wins at the Harvard Club of New York.
World No.10 El Hammamy came from a game down against compatriot and World No.30 Mariam Metwally as she secured a 9-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 victory in 36 minutes.
The World Junior Champion will now face World No.3 Nouran Gohar for a place in the quarter finals after she defeated South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller on the glass court at Grand Central Station earlier in the day.
Joining El Hammamy in the third round is World No.16 Yathreb Adel after she prevailed in her own all-Egyptian battle with compatriot Zeina Mickawy.
Adel was on top form to power to an 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 finish in 27 minutes, which means she takes on the winner of Camille Serme v Rowan Elaraby.
Meanwhile, Waters ensured it wasn’t a trio of Egyptian victories over at the Harvard Club as she took just 31 minutes to despatch Nada Abbas and as a result faces either Amanda Sobhy or Emily Whitlock next.
