Egypt’s Moustafa El Sirty became the first victor on the PSA Challenger Tour in the new decade, as he came from behind in the final to win the Airport Squash & Fitness Challenger, a PSA Challenger 5 event, in Berlin, Germany.
The 18-year-old, who only turned professional in September 2018, now has three victories on the PSA Challenger Tour, along with three runners-up finishes as well.
The final in Berlin looked like it was getting away from him though, as he lost the first two games, with Juan Camilo Vargas taking both in tight fashion, 11-9 and 12-10.
However, the Egyptian, who has recently moved into the top 100 in the World Rankings for the first time in his career, came fighting back to take the third and fourth games to level the match and send it into a decider.
The fifth game went into a tie-break at 10-10, and it was El Sirty that eventually took the victory, after 95 minutes of scintillating squash, claiming the first Challenger Tour title of the new year.
The next set of tournaments on the Challenger Tour take place at the end of the month and into February, with six events across five countries, ranging from Challenger 5 to 20.
